Founded in 1890 by 5 families, La Rioja Alta is one of the most iconic, benchmark producers in Rioja. They age their reds for remarkably long times in barrel from their in-house cooperage.
Grapes come from 40 year-old vineyards, fermented in tank with spontaneous malo, then aged in American oak barrels for 3 years, racked every 6 months by hand & candlelight.
Wonderfully complex notes of plum, dark berries, mocha, mushroom, coconut, cigar box, vanilla, & caramel.
Full & ripe, with well-balanced, silky tannins & a bright acidity enveloped in velvety texture & long, succulent finish. Ready to drink now, preferably decanted, or will age beautifully.
95% Tempranillo, 5% Graciano.
