Amilcare Alberici learned farming from his father Dino, growing pears, melons, tomatoes, pumpkins, and grapes, but now the 10 hectare family farm is nearly entirely covered in vines.
Fogarina was thought to be extinct in Emilia-Romagna, until Amilcare discovered a vineyard of it in 2002 that had been abandoned over 60 years prior. Alberici successfully petitioned to get Fogarina added to the list of allowed grapes in Lambrusco.
The grapes grow on sand & silt in the flood plains of the Po River. Natively fermented in the ancestral method, with a slow, natural second fermentation in bottle.
Dark, dry, & rustic, with tart currant, rhubarb, and a vegetal quality that’s perfect for hard cheeses, charcuterie, pizza, or ravioli.
100% Fogarina. Organic. Natural.
