Juan Jesus has spent 25 years as the 4th generation steward of Tenerife’s Bodegas Viñátigo, recently passing on some duties to his son Jorge Mendez. The estate’s focus has always been on sustainably grown indigenous Canaray Island grapes, but Jorge has worked on switching the estate over to organic & biodynamic farming methods.
Their Listán Blanco (aka Palomino Fino) comes from ungrafted vines, averaging about 100 years of age. Vinified with indigenous yeasts & aged steel.
Fresh, salty, & mineral-driven, this is a refreshing, quintessential island wine. Notes of quince, peach blossoms, lemon verbena, & green apple, with herbal fennel, fig leaves, & meadow grass, all wrapped up in a distinct volcanic minerality.
