Viña Maitía is run by husband-and-wife team David Marcel, a French/Basque winemaker, and Loreta Garau, a Chilean enologist. They focus on making wines of place with low-intervention, artisanal methods, and their vineyards are filled with old vines of País (aka Mission), Carignan, and Malbec, some well over 150 years old.
