Viña Maitía is run by husband-and-wife team David Marcel, a French/Basque winemaker, and Loreta Garau, a Chilean enologist. They focus on making wines of place with low-intervention, artisanal methods, and their vineyards are filled with old vines of País (aka Mission), Carignan, and Malbec, some well over 150 years old.

Pipeño wines are honest, small-scale, traditionally made Chilean wines from the most recent harvest. Often drunk by vineyard workers, they’re unique to Chile’s most traditional & rural winemaking regions.

“Aupa” mostly comes from 25 acres of very old, dry-farmed País vines, planted in 1870, and 60+ year old Carignan, grown on granitic soils in Loncomilla,m Maulle Valley. After spontaneous native fermentation, it ages 5 months in cement vats

Filled with crushed raspberry, wild strawberry, and rose petal, with herbal hints of fresh mint, oregano, and thyme. Fruit-forward & easy-drinking, with a fresh acidity and low tannins, it’s perfect with a slight chill on a warm day.

80% País, 20% Carignan. Organic. Natural.
