Founded in 1890 by 5 families, La Rioja Alta is one of the most iconic, benchmark producers in Rioja. They age their reds for remarkably long times in barrel from their own cooperage, and are one of the few producers still racking wines by hand & by candlelight.
Destemmed & crushed grapes ferment in steel followed by slow malolactic. Aged in neutral American oak for 3 years.
Rich & creamy, with ripe dark fruit, balsamic, caramel, vanilla, & chocolate contrasted with tobacco leaf, incense, & toasted oak. Full, round tannins and an integrated acidity before a decadent finish.
95% Tempranillo, 5% Manzuelo.
