The first blocks of the iconic Monte Bello vineyard were planted in 1886, but by the early 1940s, the vineyard was abandoned, before being partially replanted later that decade. Those Cabernet vines, now over 65 years old, went into the first Ridge Monte Bello in 1962.
Grapes from 18 parcels were separated by lot & destemmed, then natively fermented before natural malolactic fermentation in tank. Aged 16 months in American oak (58% new).
Black cherry, plum, black tea, cedar, and sweet toasted oak aromas join brambly fruit, vanilla, and mint on the palate. Round, supple tannins and herbal forest notes close out the long finish.
88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot. Organic. Natural.
