"Ex Umbris" began as a one-time bottling after a fire in 2002 struck the vineyard's surrounding hillsides. The residual smoke & ash created a memorable wine, so David O'Reilly and team have continued making it every year. Aromas of savory pepper and grilled meats, with jammy purple and red fruit. Leather, toasted oak, blackberry, and plum bring peppery tannins and a long, silky finish. Aged 11 months in neutral French oak.
