In 1924 a wooden schooner named The Kirk & Sweeney was seized by the US Coast Guard. The boat was brimming with rum en route from the Caribbean to the Prohibitive US Northeast. Today that small wrinkle in the larger saga of Prohibition has gifted us a fantastic, affordable, 12-year-old, [most likely] Dominican rum. Vanilla & toffee, candied orange peel & vanilla; honey, cinnamon, and did someone say vanilla? A sipper but will plug easily into winter or summer cocktails.
