The De Forville family immigrated to Piedmont from Belgium in 1848, eventually settling in the village of Barbaresco. The clayish marl soils here feature fossils from the ancient Padan Sea, giving a unique minerality to the wines. Hand harvested, destemmed Barbera from 30+ year old vines. Spontaneous fermentation, then aged in 50-60 hL Slavonia oak botti for 12 months. Bright, fresh, and briary, with red cherry, raspberry, earth & spice. So good.
