Since the early 2000s, Pedro & Antonio Ramirez have run Frontón de Oro, originally founded by their father in the late 1970s. They focus mostly on local varietals, on the island’s very poor volcanic & clay soils at some of the highest elevation vineyards on Gran Canaria.
This is mostly the native Listán Negro, with a little bit of Tintilla (aka Trousseau). Vinified in steel, then aged 3 months in used American oak, with roughly 12% new.
Brightly packed with juicy raspberry, strawberry, black tea, & lavender. A fresh acidity nicely balances rustic notes of smoke, black pepper, and earth. A great introduction to the wines of the Canary Islands, it’s perfect for fans of volcanic soils.
Listán Negro, Tintilla. Organic.
