In the 19th century, Luigi Ferraris emigrated to the U.S., and struck it rich during the California Gold Rush. He sent money back home to his family in Monferrato, which helped purchase the estate in 1921. The family mostly sold grapes to the local co-op until the mid-1980s when a devastating hail storm decimated the vineyards.
The estate was revitalized in 1999, when Luigi’s great-grandson, Luca, saw the potential of the local aromatic Ruchè grape and began restoring the old cellar and thinned the vines to improve quality. Luca's efforts even garnered him the nickname "Mister Ruchè" for his dedication, making Ferraris a reference point for this rare grape.
From 8-12 year-old vines grown in the Asti district of Castagnole Monferrato on clay & tuff 260 meters above sea level. Fermented in steel, then aged 6-9 months in large neutral oak barrels with another 3 months in bottle.
Aromas of wild rose petals intertwine with cherry jam, spiced plum, forest fruits, & pepper. The vibrant acidity & chewy texture blend perfectly with gentle tones of oak before a long, grippy finish. Great with aged cheeses & charcuterie, pasta with red sauce, or mushroom pizza.
