The Fabulas estate located in the village of Pretoro, not far from the Majella National Park, at 600m above sea level. According to legend, the park is named for 7 female warriors called the Majellane, who lived in the region. Each of the 7 wines produced by Fabulas honors one of the warriors.
Despite the Adriatic Sea just 35km from the estate, Fabulas’s vines see very little maritime influence, protected by the Majella mastiff looming overhead, bringing strong diurnal temperature shifts.
Fabulas is a collaboration between a few farmers, with a “whole-body” approach to winemaking, using organic & biodynamic methods. A flock of sheep help control the native flora & provide natural fertilizers for the wines. Grown on limestone soils, the grapes are hand harvested before spontaneous fermentation & aging on the lees in steel.
White flowers open the bouquet, with notes of smoke and hazelnut. The palate sees elderberry, juicy pear, sage, mint, and a twist of lemon. A lovely acidity balances the structure & softness, before a soft, aromatic finish.
