Mike Lucia’s winemaking roots go back to the ’90s, when he began working in cellars as a teenager. He started Rootdown in 2016 after studying enology at Fresno State, and working gigs at other wineries. Es Okay makes easy-going wines with grapes from some of California’s best vineyards with minimal sulfur for maximum freshness.
Merlot & Cab came from Cole Ranch, while the Grenache was a bulk purchase from a friend in Mendocino County. Fruit was sorted & left whole cluster, with dry ice added in the 20 day fermentation. After press, the Cab & half the Merlot went to barrel, with the rest of the Merlot aged in egg shaped tanks.
A humble overachiever, brambly fruit balances subtle crushed rocks & lavender on the nose. Juicy mixed berries, with savory, herbal tomato leaf, rosemary, and vetiver.
42% Merlot, 40% Grenache, 18% Cabernet. Natural.
