Stéphane Sérol took over Domaine Sérol from his father in 1996. Stéphane and his wife Carine have selected the best plots of granite soils at high altitude in the eastern Côte Roannaise region of the Loire Valley. These abandoned hillsides have been replanted to the local indigenous grape Gamay Saint Romain, a variant of Beaujolais Gamay. Farming here is organic & biodynamic to respect the land’s natural cycles.
The Eclat de Granite is a blend of different plots grown on granite & sandy soil, with 30-70 year old vines. Vinification occurs in cement tanks, with 50% whole cluster fermentation, using only indigenous yeasts. The wine ages in cement 7-10 months, and is lightly filtered before bottling.
Bright red strawberry, raspberry & dark red cherry flavors abound with herbs & spices giving way to a smooth mouthfeel & stony minerality. A fun & quaffable wine, perfect for just about any pairing.
