Since 1955, three generations of the Dupuis family has worked the vines at Domaine des Vercheres, located in the Royer Valley in the heart of the Mâcon Mancey appellation.
The Macon Villages Chardonnay is grown in 2 plots in the communes of Mancey and Royer. The soils here are a mix of clay & limestone, with small white pebbles covering the surface. The rows are mulched with alternating straw mulch & grass cover, which aerates the soil and has virtually eliminated the use of herbicides & fertilizers in the vineyard. After a quick press at the winery, the juice ferments using only native yeasts, before full malolactic fermentation, and finishes aging in stainless steel tanks.
A fantsatic all-purpose white wine, the Vercheres is a far cry from oaky, California-style Chardonnays. Expect ripe stone fruit and citrus flavors with a generous minerality and a clean, creamy texture.
