The Guégniard family is known for their precise Chenin Blancs, and this red more than lives up to the promise. The estate was founded in 1964, with a high standards, including green harvesting, strict sorting, and separate vinification of each parcel. The 36 hectares of vineyards are spread throughout several regions, including Anjou, Savennières, Côteaux du Layon, and Quarts de Chaume.
The red grapes grow on warmer, heat-retaining schist soils mixed with silica & clay. Macerated for 15 days, with air stirring to extract fruit & aromas, the juice then ferments and ages in steel vats for 9 months.
Fresh, floral, and aromatic, with black cherry, fleshy red plums, blackberries, and red currants. Earthier notes of black pepper, iron ore, sweet green leaves, peppery spice, tobacco and herbs slowly unfold before the supple finish.
80% Cabernet Franc, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. Organic.
