Kate Norris & Thomas Monroe founded Division Winemaking Company in 2010 to craft responsible wines with a story and purpose through minimal intervention methods. The urban winery is based in Portland, with a focus on grapes and methods from where Kate & Tom studied winemaking in Loire, Beaujolais, and Northern Rhone.
“Un” comes from multiple vineyards throughout Willamette Valley, all farmed organically or biodynamically. The one exception is the Eola Springs Vineyard which is still being treated conventional for phylloxera in the older vines, as there is no organic treatment available.
The separate lots were fermented spontaneously or with native yeasts, and significant portions of whole cluster, to diversify the style and texture, and provide a snapshot of the vintage. Aged in new French oak (15% new) for 8 months, then racked into concrete tanks for an additional 2 months before bottling.
“Un” is a lighter, more finesse-driven style, full of savory, ethereal aromatics and deep, spicy, earthy undertones. The lithe palate balances wild, brambly strawberries, raspberry, and cherry, with fresh herbs and florals, and a mid-palate minerality. Fine-grained, well-knit tannins frame the finish filled with spice, nuance, and nerve.
100% Pinot Noir. Organic.
