Treasure hunters, rejoice: this here is truly fun, unique stuff. Unlike mezcal (and therefore tequila, bacanora, raicilla, etc.), comiteco is not distilled from the fermented heart, or piña, of the agave, but rather from the collected and fermented sap, which in its fermented form is the drink pulque. The final product includes distilled cane, so it can resemble rum more than mezcal. Sharp, fruity, & pungent, with earthy, herbal notes from the pulque, and a hot medicinal finish, D'antaño is pure magic.
