Australian native Mick Craven met his wife, South African-born Jeanine in Sonoma dragging horses for harvest in 2007. After traveling the wine world for a few years, they settled in South Africa in 2011, and started Craven wines in 2014, sourcing fruit from single vineyard sites around Stellenbosch.
Located in Devon Valley, the Firs Vineyard is one of the warmest parts of Stellenbosch with deep, rich, red soil with a high clay content. Grapes are picked early to preserve acidity & freshness. Whole cluster fermentation in steel, with 12 months in used French oak.
A fresh, peppery, savory, & fruity Syrah. Wild black cherries & raspberries, with nutmeg, black pepper, crushed violets, and earth. Slightly grainy tannins usher in the intense, lengthy finish.
