Christoph and Marie Ziegler moved to their house in Leistadt in 2015, with just a little garden and a turtle pond on their property, and no room for a parking spot. The idea for a winery came about when they needed more room for their growing family, and decided to buy their 80 year-old neighbor’s vine-filled land.
With just 1.3 hectares of vines, they have little plan to expand, as the Zieglers prefer to work the vines and cellar themselves. But they’re encouraging their neighbors in Leistadt to take advantage of the changing climate that allows grapes in the region to ripen more fully than in years past.
“Easy Winer” is inspired by Christoph’s motorcycle adventures through the vineyards of Southern France with friend and fellow Pfalz winemaker, Andreas Durst (and the movie “Easy Rider”). Grown on limestone and loess loam between 200-300 meters elevation, the various grapes are fermented separately in a mix of oak, stone, and steel tanks until October, then blended and bottled in November.
Crisp and herbal, with notes of fresh granny smith & baked macintosh apples. Gentle white floral notes accented by smoke, herbs, and racy lime, with a rippling acidity and bright minerality on the finish.
50% Sylvaner, 20% Riesling, 20% Müller-Thurgau, 10% Trainer. Organic. Natural.
