Angelo Paternò worked as a winemaker for 25 years before buying 60 hectares of his own in the southeastern Sicilian province of Siracusa in 2001. He has handed the reins to his daughters Marilina & Frederica, but still helps in the cellar. Half the estate is a polycultural farm, with the other 35 hectares are devoted to wine grapes.
Grapes for Sikelè grow on chalky white limestone soils. Spontaneously fermented & aged 8 months in concrete tanks, then finished with 3 months in bottle. No fining, filtration, or added SO2.
Fresh, juicy red cherry & raspberry meet savory black pepper, tobacco, tilled earth, and spice,
