Juan Jesus has spent 25 years as the 4th generation steward of Tenerife’s Bodegas Viñátigo, recently passing on some duties to his son Jorge Mendez. The estate’s focus has always been on sustainably grown indigenous Canaray Island grapes, but Jorge has worked on switching the estate over to organic & biodynamic farming methods.
This is 100% Gual (aka Bual), a nearly extinct indigenous grape that Juan Jesus has revived on Tenerife on the island’s young volcanic soils. Half ferments in stainless steel, with the rest in concrete eggs. Aged on the lees, it’s blended just before bottling.
Round & fat, with juicy citrus, mango, guava, pineapple, & a rocky, smoky minerality. The crisp acidity brings lift to the creamy, jasmine, tropical, green tea-tinged palate.
100% Gual. Organic.
