This characterful red wine from Tuscany is crafted by Pietro Beconcini, a winery deeply rooted in the region’s tradition and terroir. Terrazze 2020 is the result of a unique blend of eight native grape varieties, including Malvasia Nera, Canaiolo, Colorino, Trebbiano Nero, Ciliegiolo, Gran Noir, Tempranillo, and Buonamico. The grapes come from an ancient terraced hillside of just 1.5 hectares in San Miniato, where young vines grow alongside 50-year-old plants in calcareous white clay soil rich in fossilized shells.
Fermentation takes place in raw cement tanks using only native yeasts. The grapes are harvested at different times and undergo separate macerations lasting one to four weeks depending on variety and ripeness. After fermentation, the wine matures for 12 months in raw cement vats, followed by an additional four months of bottle aging. The result is a transparent ruby-red wine with a botanical and balsamic aromatic profile. On the palate, it is instantly enjoyable—juicy, fruity, lightly mentholated, with soft tannins and a low alcohol content of 12.5%.
