Jurtschitsch served as a winery for the monks of the neighboring Franciscan order well into the 18th century. Since 2006, it’s been in the hands of Alwin Jurtschitsch and his wife, Stefanie Hasselbach, who are leading the natural wine movement in the Kamptal, and quickly converted the vines to organic viticulture.
Their old-school classic winemaking style harkens back to the wines made by their grandparents, emphasizing Austria’s cool climate in wines full of finesse that strike a balance of ripe fruit & fresh acidity.
The fruit is hand-harvested from various vineyards around the Kamptal Valley, primarily grown on loess soils. The grapes macerate on the skins for a short time before fermenting spontaneously in stainless steel.
Intensely aromatic, with notes of peach blossoms, crunchy pears, fresh apples, citrus, and white pepper. Fresh & spicy, it’s complex & mouth-filling, with a lively acidity, perfect for so many dishes.
100% Grüner Veltliner. Organic. Natural.
