Graham Tatomer started working at Santa Barbara Winery when he was just 16, where he was first introduced to the old vine Rieslings at Lafond Winery. His devotion to the grape took him to Wachau, Austria, where he worked several vintages for Emmerich Knoll, before returning to Santa Barbara to found his eponymous winery in 2008.
Named for the nearby Vandenberg Air Force Base, this Riesling is a blend of multiple pickings from several sites in Santa Barbara County. Most of the fruit comes from Kick-on Ranch, with the rest coming from older vineyards in the area. The grapes have a higher percentage of botrytis (“noble rot”), for a richer, more fruit-driven wine. Fermented and aged in stainless steel for one year, with 20% malolactic fermentation, and an additional year of age in the bottle.
Peach fuzz, pomelo zest, lime peel, mandarin orange, and white flowers, with herbaceous notes of dried seaweed, dried and wet grass, and green peppercorn. Botrytis-y notes of honeycomb and pollen, with a waxy, honeyed texture, and sizzlingly bright acidity. Bone dry.
100% Riesling. Organic.
