Nathan “Nearest” Green was the first Black American master distiller, who taught a young Jack Daniel how to make whiskey. Over a century later, Green’s 5th generation descendant Victoria Eady Butler carries on his legacy as the master blender for Uncle Nearest.

Uncle Nearest 1856 is named for the year Green was credited for perfecting the Lincoln County Process, used in almost all Tennessee whiskies, where the whiskey is filtered through charcoal chips before aging in casks.

A blend of premium aged whiskey, it brings aromas of baled hay, dried grass, stone fruit, & sweet maple. Spicy caramel delights the palate with dried fruit & floral notes, somewhat reminiscent of oatmeal raisin cookies. The long, rich finish brings pleasantly sweet notes of vanilla.
