Located just a few kilometers from the Mediterranean coast, Ornellaia strives for the most authentic expression of the Bolgheri terroir. Soils are a combination of marine, alluvial, and volcanic, with cool northern winds meeting strong sea breezes.
Grapes are hand harvested, sorted, & destemmed before a soft press. Each variety & parcel was vinified separately. aged in small French barriques (25% new) for about 12 months before blending. The blend then goes back to barrique for 3 months, with an additional 6 months in bottle before release.
Soft & silky, with ripe red fruits, balsamic, cypress, & eucalyptus berries, before an elegant tannic structure & lingering finish. Deftly combines approachability & depth of flavor with great aging potential.
54% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot. Sustainable.
