Steve Matthiasson is something of an avant-gardener, who settled in Napa Valley in the late 1990s during the “bigger is better” years. He prefers a more traditional, natural, sustainable approach, considers winemaking a natural extension of farming, and likes to play with different grapes than you’d typically find in California. using minimal, natural methods & sustainable viticulture. These days, Matthiasson has become a family effort, with his wife Jill & two young sons joining alongside.
Tendu Red comes from two sites in the warm Dunnigan Hills on pink gravelly, alluvial soils. Native fermented in stainless steel at cool temps before 5 months in neutral barrels. No filtration, no added sulfur.
Fresh, vibrant, & aromatically complex. Bright cherries, ripe strawberries, tart cranberries, flowers, & a little savory something. Racy & alive, the bright acidity brings a great tension in this perfectly chillable red.
