Founded in 1849, Von Winning makes some of the best dry wines in Germany’s Pfalz region. Winemaker Stephen Attman has a minimalist approach in the cellar, describing it as “not doing the wrong things at the wrong time”.
“Winnings” is the estate’s entry-level Riesling, made from 15 year-old vines grown on loam over sandstone, mostly from Bichofsgarten in Bad Durkheim, with some fruit from Deidesheim. Aged & fermented in stainless steel with about 10% in old French & German barrels for a juicy, generoius texture.
Fragrant aromas of honeysuckle, pineapple, peach, & wet stone, with a bright, fresh palate of lemon, green apple, & peach and a flinty minerality Too crisp to be a sweet wine, yet too sweet & fruity to be fully dry, it strikes the perfect balance of everyday deliciousness on the long, off-dry finish.
