Originally founded in 1849, von Winning gained acclaim under Leopold von Winning, who dedicated his life to creating top quality wines, working as gently and closely to nature as possible. He was one of the founding members of the Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter (VDP), an association of premium German wineries. Today, the estate is run by self-defined wine geek, Stephan Attman, who continues the von Winning approach of minimalist winemaking, with high-density vines that force the roots to grow deep, naturally reducing yields.
This Rosé of Pinot Noir comes from 25 year old vines on a mix of sites in Deidesheim & Ruppertsberg. The soil is classic Pfalz red sandstone, with limestone, loess, & clay. Fermentation is natural & spontaneous in steel, with aging in steel as well.
Sweet strawberry & honeysuckle on the nose, joined by watermelon, bruised yellow apple, dried roses, red currants, tangerine, and a cherry sweetness on the palate. Light & racy, with a chalky minerality, touch of stone & white pepper, and a lip-smacking finish.
100% Pinot Noir. Sustainable.
