In 2003, Anna Maria Cruciata and her husband Hugh Canstable Maxwell moved their 3 young children to Grosetto in Maremma Toscana to begin a more agrarian life. Today, they have 25 hectares of farmland & vines, all farmed organically since 2004.
Strong winds rush through the 12 hectare vineyard from the nearby sea, which helps mitigate the day/night temperatures. The soils are sandy, created by the erosion of old sandstone rocks. Hand harvested grapes see a long, cold maceration & fermentation in steel tanks on the lees for 3 months. The juice then ages for another 6 months in steel.
Like a sea breeze caressing the palate, “Auramaris” is lightly herbaceous, minerally, and slightly salty, with notes of citrus, pear, apple, and yellow stone fruit. Mostly Vermentino, the addition of some Grachetto brings yellow plum and Italian apricot notes, with some bergamot, almond, and grassy notes. The fresh, snappy acidity and remarkable minerality come from the sandy Mediterranean soils.
85% Vermentino, 15% Grechetto. Organic.
