Antonella Volpe inherited Azienda Agricola Rapillo in 2000, and has been renovating and converting the estate since. Located in Serrone in the Ciociara, Rapillo may be just 50 miles from Rome, but the craggy volcanic terrain is inhospitable and hard to traverse.
Rapillo has 3 hectares of small parcels located about 350 meters above sea level, scattered throughout the lower slopes of Mount Scalambra, on soils ranging from terra rossa to sand and limestone.
Passerina is a grape native to Abruzzo and Le Marche, but produces smaller, more aromatic berries in Lazio. Lightly macerated on the skins to extract a beautiful orangey hue, the grapes are then pressed and spontaneously fermented in stainless steel.
Light-bodied with a hazy creaminess, Rapillo Bianco has a distinct scraggly, volcanic mountain quality. Peach, pear, apricot, and honey tangerine join notes of white flowers, thyme, sage, broom, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Fruity, floral, herby, and warmly spiced, it’s a beautiful match for pea risotto, pesto pasta, or any kind of seafood.
