The Pierazzuoli family has owned Le Farnete since 1990, producing olive oil along with wines. Their vineyard spans 11 hectares, with olive groves, meadows, and woodlands comprising the rest of the 45 hectare property.
Barco Reale refers to the Barco Reale Medici, a 1600 hectare game reserve established by the Medici family in the 17th century. While the original relationship between wine & the park is unclear, Barco Reale wines are typically younger & don’t have to follow the same aging requirements of the rest of Carmignano.
In Barco Reale, Cabernet Sauvignon has grown alongside Sangiovese long before “Super Tuscan” joined the wine lover’s lexicon. Here the 15 year old vines grow on chalky & clay soils, then are vinified and aged 4 months in tank.
Aromas of black cherries, ripe currants, and red rose petals join a palate of red plums, cherries, and warm spice. Bright & mouthwatering, elements of vanilla, leather, snuff, and smoke frame soft tannins on the fruity finish.
80% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon.
