The Almondo family has grown grapes in the Roero region of Piedmont for over 300 years, but Giovanni Almondo was the first to bottle the wines. Today, the Almondos have 18 hectares of vines surrounding the town of Montá. Giovanni still works the vineyards regularly, but has passed winemaking duties to his son Domenico, whose own sons Stefano & Frederico help with the day-to-day operations.
“Vigne Sparse” comes from 3 hectares of old vine Arneis grown on dry, sandy, acidic clay soils with a high limestone content. Aged in steel for 6 months, it remains on the lees as long as possible.
Clean & sharp, with notes of juicy stone fruit, underripe pear, mint, & white flowers. Intensely mineral notes of crushed rocks, oyster shells & salt, accented by white pepper, almond & hazelnut. The high-toned aromatics & bright acidic backbone lead to a long, savory, energetic finish. Incredibly food friendly, it pairs beautifully with just about anything.
