Benjamin Leroux grew up in a flower shop in Beaune. Often surrounded by vines, he decided to enroll in the local wine school at just 15, and later worked in vineyards & cellars in Bordeaux, Oregon, and Burgundy before starting his own winery in 2007. Now with 8 hectares of estate vines & another 20 hectares of rented vines, he’s one of the most respected classical winemakers of his generation.
Leroux’s Auxey-Duresses vineyard, Les Fosses, is located just over the hill from Meursault Meix Chaveaux. From 2 hectares of Chardonnay, planted between 1946-1985 on clay & shallow stony soils. Directly pressed, with a light settling in casks before transferring to foudres (10% new) for indigenous fermentation & 12 months of aging.
Bright, focused acidity, with a rich nutty texture reminiscent of a fine Meursault. Exotic & vibrant, with tropical pineapple & ripe yellow apple offset by a chalky freshness, zesty lemon-lime citrus & lees complexity.
Chardonnay. Sustainable.
