Castilla-La Mancha is one of Spain’s largest wine producing regions, known for bulk wines made from the Airén grape. Julián Ruiz Villaneuva is looking to change that, with compellingly nuanced wines.
Pampaneo is 100% ancient, head-trained Airén vines, hand harvested from sandy-chalky soils with some clay. Spontaneous yeast fermentation in stainless, with at least a year in bottle. No disgorgement, fining, filtering, or SO2 at all.
Crisp, playful bubbles hold an herbaceous nose and flavors of yellow apple, pineapple, and grapefruit. A bright acidity brings freshness, with a salty, briny mineral edge.
