At Controvento, Vincenzo Di Meo strives to make wines like his grandfather did, in the purest possible form. Chemicals are never used on his vines or in the cellar, with no additions or manipulation of any kind during the winemaking process. His 5 hectares lie just off the Adriatic sea, where fresh, salty breezes keep the grapes cool on warm, sunny days.
Grapes come from Trebbiano d’Abruzzo and Passerina vines on clay soils, planted between 1998-2001. Spontaneously fermented in steel, with 5 days of maceration on the skins. After a few months in the same tanks, the wine is bottled unfined, unfiltered, and without added sulfur.
Doccia Fredda is as hazy and refreshing as a cold shower on a steamy late summer afternoon. Bright & sunny, with loads of yellow & tropical fruits and juicy grapefruit. A salty, irony minerality leads to a fresh, fruity, harmonious finish. Excellent with any seafood appetizers, spicy Thai or Szechuan cuisine.
Pro tip: ignore the wax & open like you would any capsule-free wine.
