The Rabiller family has long grown grapes in Saint-Estéphe, but sold their entire harvests to the local co-op until 1994, when Dany & René Rabiller decided to build their own winery. The vineyards of La Peyre consists of several plots totaling 8 hectares in the Marbuzet sector of the appellation.

With less than 5 hectares of vines, La Peyre’s Saint-Estéphe is the only wine in the region to receive the rare “Cru Artisan” classification, meaning the vines receive individual attention to fulfill the terroir’s true potential. Gravelly soils facilitate drainage, mixed with limestone & clay that retains valuable moisture during the dry summer months. Winter pruning & green harvesting of the 40 year-old vines helps limit crop size & promote healthy grapes. Hand harvested and sorted, the grapes then see long maceration & slow fermentation in tank to extract color, tannins & flavor. The wine then goes into small French oak barrels (30% new) for 15-18 months before being bottled unfiltered.

A great example of classic Saint-Estéphe from an outstanding vintage, La Peyre blends earthiness and power with elegance. Dark, silky fruits of black cherry, plum, cassis & anise meet savory graphite, mint, cigar box and leather tones. Complex, sophisticated, lush & tart, the elegant tannins continue through the long, grippy finish. A match with grilled meats, charcuterie, or mushroom wellington.

40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot, 10% Cabernet Franc
