Benjamin Taillandier has 9.5 hectares at the foot of the Montagne Noire in Minervois. He feels many of the local wines are too concentrated and alcoholic, preferring a lighter, fresher, thirst-quenching style. His wines have a liveliness seldom seen in the region.
Laguzelle comes from 3 hectares of Cinsault, Syrah and Carignan grown on soils of schist, clay, limestone, sanded and marl. The vines are farmed biodynamically and average 30 years of age.
After a few days of cold maceration, the wine ferments with natural yeasts, then sees 6 months in stainless steel.
Savory, with notes of the local garrigue, dried herbs, red plum, blackberry, warm spices, black pepper, and violet. Fresh & plump, it’s a moody, peppery, savory delight.
